Juan Gallardo a boy born born into a family of poverty, grew up to become one of the greatest Matadors in Spain. He marries his childhood sweetheart, Carmen, but along with his fame and fortune come another beautiful woman. Wealthy, widowed Dona Sol. The two have an affair, but before long Juan feels guilty of his betrayal and tries to end the relationship. Angry at being rejected, Dona sets about exposing the affair and destroying Juan’s marriage. Juan eventually grows miserable and his recklessness causes a tragedy in the arena.
